Former Conservative MP Rob Anders will be joining Tanya Gaw on the next Empower Hour to discuss the looming threat of central bank digital currency (CBDC) in Canada. Substantial steps are being taken by the government and the Bank of Canada to issue a digital form of the Canadian dollar, known as a CBDC, or in reality, implementing financial surveillance. Unlike cryptocurrencies which are decentralized and private, CBDCs are the total opposite. CBDCs are completely owned and controlled by governments. There would no longer be a ‘middle man’ (aka the banks) who must adhere to strict privacy regulations. Instead, the government would hold your wallet, your money, and have access to all of your private banking information. This would include information on every transaction connected to your daily life.
The so-called digital dollar isn’t like the one you fold in your wallet, it is an entry in a database and as we know anything uploaded to the internet of things, regardless of what the government tells you, is vulnerable to cyber attacks and fraud. There is no such thing as safe online banking and the personal risks of CBDCs trump any marketed benefits.
NSA surveillance whistleblower Edward Snowden had this to say about CBDCs: “a CBDC is something closer to being a perversion of cryptocurrency, or at least of the founding principles and protocols of cryptocurrency—a cryptofascist currency, an evil twin entered into the ledgers on Opposite Day, expressly designed to deny its users the basic ownership of their money and to install the State at the mediating center of every transaction.”

With cryptocurrencies, governments can’t track how much you have, where you spend your money, or who you give it to. Plus they are decentralized, effectively pulling power away from central banks who have been using debt to control and enslave entire populations for decades. CBDCs are the opposite and are key to creating a Chinese-style Social Credit System, as it gives the government complete control over every single aspect of your life. The government can use CBDC to:
- track and trace your every move;
- charge whatever tax rate they choose;
- censor and punish citizens who do not conform or comply with their dictates;
- program your money so it expires;
- control your carbon emissions by putting a limit on your heat or air conditioning intake;
- not allow you to buy groceries or fuel if for example, you didn’t take the latest mRNA gene therapy.
In March 2024 the World Bank president Ajay Banga told the World Bank Group’s inaugural Global Digital Summit that digital ID should be embraced in all nations and that the government should own your digital ID. On April 23, 2024 the World Economic Forum claimed that more than 98% of the world’s central banks are “researching, experimenting, piloting or deploying” CBDCs. Thankfully, due to major public backlash and electing the right people into office, commonsense is prevailing and in several US States they are already banning CBDCs. Such as Florida Governor Ron Destantis, saying CBDCs would enable a “massive transfer of power from consumers to a central authority” and Texas Senator Ted Cruz who filed legislation to halt efforts by the Biden administration.
How to Take Action:
- Subscribe to the Bank of Canada’s email alert on this topic and voice your opinion.
- Use cash as often as possible.
- Withdrawal your money from the bank and invest it in something substantial such as gold or silver.
- Stop using your credit card. You are only giving them more power over you.
- Contact your MP and make your voice and opposition loud and clear on this issue.
