Matthew Trewhella, pastor and author, joins Tanya on the Empower Hour to discuss his book, The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates. “The lesser magistrate is an old term referring to any in civil government with authority, either elected or appointed” (ie. School board trustee/superintendent, mayor/councillor, MLA/MPP, MP, police, pastors). There isn’t a more important book, other than the Bible, that provides the kind of instruction currently needed to effectively and swiftly dismantle the agenda of corrupt civil servants, in order to maintain our God-given unalienable rights.
The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate, “declares that when the superior or higher civil authority makes unjust/immoral laws or decrees, the lesser or lower ranking civil authority has both a right and duty to refuse obedience to that superior authority. If necessary, the lesser authorities even have the right and obligation to actively resist the superior authority.” They have a responsibility to protect the innocent and oppose those who made unjust laws or decrees, when it conflicts with God’s law.

Matthew Trewhella is the Pastor of Mercy Seat Christian Church for 35 years – a congregation located in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. He and his wife, Clara, have been married 41 years. They have 11 children, and 30 grandchildren. He is the founder of Missionaries to the Preborn which was instrumental in seeing abortion in Wisconsin drop by over 60% from 1990 to 2022. Pastor Matt spent over 15 months in jail for interposing on behalf of the preborn at the doors of the deathcamps.

Duty to Interpose & Defy Tyrants
Why is the Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate so important when it comes to the authority of civil government? Because of human nature, there are always men (and women) who are willing to corrupt all forms of government. A multi-level government is critical in order to have the ability to stop the corruption from spreading and succeeding.
