Draconian Conversion Therapy Ban & Abuse of Power!

May 21, 2020

Call to Action!

Dear Friends,

Time is of the essence.
The City of Calgary is next in line to vote on a “conversion therapy” ban on Monday, May 25th.

Radical LGBTQ activists, led by Dr. Kristopher Wells, are aggressively pushing for bans on therapy for people questioning their gender and are only working to ban therapy that does not “support” LGBTQ ideology.

The Association of Reformed Political Action (ARPA) Canada, Faith Beyond Belief and Campaign Life Coalition are organizations actively involved in opposing the “conversion therapy” bans at all levels of government.

According to Jojo Ruba from Faith Beyond Belief, “the Calgary ban is the most restrictive ban ever written in Canada. It will not permit patients, who consent to therapy, to have access to counseling. The city is set to ban teaching, preaching, and counseling about sexuality, even teachings from the Bible, if it is deemed ‘judgmental’ by secular authorities, such as city councillors and by-law officers. The ban targets anything that would reduce non-heterosexual behaviour (not just orientation) – including prayer and even word of mouth invitations to counseling.”

The video above provides a real-life look at the consequences of removing parental rights and banning therapy for minors. This agenda is a one-way street to the sterilization and mutilation of minors. Laura Lynn Tyler Thompson and Tanya Gaw discuss in detail the deceptive language behind the term “conversion therapy”, the risks and “WHO” is behind this agenda.  View Here

Dear Mayor Nenshi and City Council,

I request that you vote NO in response to the proposed by-law to ban so called “conversion therapy”.

“Conversion therapy,” which at one time involved electroshock therapy, castration, and institutionalization, has not existed in Canada for decades. This proposal to ban something that no longer exists is merely a deception initiated by LGBTQ activists to advance their agenda.

No real evidence was provided to support the claim that conversion therapy (original conversion therapy) exists in Calgary. And the re-definition of conversion therapy, talk therapy, does not justify the City of Calgary’s draconian abuse of power to dictate to people whom they can or cannot choose to see for therapy, or what they can or cannot discuss in this “private” setting. Though we support banning any torture or coercive counselling, Canadians should be able to access the counselling they choose. Consenting patients should not be treated like torture victims.

The further attack against religious leaders, counsellors and parents is in violation of Sections 2, 7 and 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as well as a physician’s ethical commitment promising to “First, do no harm”. The conversion therapy ban is unconstitutional, and similar cases have already been challenged and settled at the Supreme Court;

Despite the City’s effort to utilize Section 3(c) of the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, c. M-26, there is no evidence of any significant safety issue or threat to the person to substantiate using Section 3(c) as grounds to push this agenda. However, passing this by-law will put minors at great risk in being exposed to harmful drugs, sterilization, and mutilation of their bodies.

Legal action is commencing in response to victims of this abuse and countries around the world are implementing sweeping bans on hormone blockers and sex reassignment surgery for minors.  Is the City prepared to take responsibility for being held liable when the time comes?

If the Mayor of Calgary and City Council vote to disregard both the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and international agreements regarding human rights, I have no doubt that Calgarians will reflect their dismay in the next civic election.

I, therefore, once again, request you reject the by-law to ban “conversion therapy”.

Yours truly,
