Dear Hon. Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration,

Numerous appeals were made to the previous Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen, and the Prime Minister, to grant the Ogunkoya family asylum in Canada.  Despite the public’s outcry, nothing was done to assist this family but rather their deportation was ordered to take place by November 15, 2019.  However, due to their lives being in danger should they return to Nigeria, they currently remain in Canada in hiding.  They fled Nigeria because their lives are at risk due to converting from Islam to Christianity.

Attached is a letter from the Lawyer, Majed El Shafie, representing them who is also the Founder of One Free World International, a human rights organization with a mandate to help those facing religious persecution.  Please read the details of this case to better understand the urgency to approve this family’s claim and watch the following video to hear their personal plea.  View HERE

The Ogunkoya’s have already been living in Canada for two years and have integrated into a community in Welland, Ontario. Morufat was gainfully employed in addition to volunteering for various causes in the Niagara region. Her children were doing well in school and also active in the community.

The Liberal government is allowing known terrorists to return to Canada who are living freely in our neighbourhoods and roaming our streets.  Canadians are paying millions of dollars to monitor them and provide for them but a Christian family, who are not a threat and bear no cost to Canadians, are being refused asylum.  This is an injustice and it must be remedied.

The Prime Minister once tweeted, “to those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you” .  Are these mere words?

This family is facing severe persecution.  Therefore, I request that you immediately relieve the burden of the Ogunkoya family and grant them asylum.
