January 14, 2026: Alex Newman, founder of Liberty Sentinel, award-winning journalist, educator, author, and speaker, returns to the Empower Hour with host Tanya Gaw to examine recent developments involving Venezuela, and their global implications, including the critically important January 3rd capture and arrest of Venezuela’s illegitimate president, Nicolás Maduro, a narco-drug terrorist.
There is more to this story than narco-terrorism, drug cartels, oil and Maduro colluding with Russia, Iran, and China. The broader operation and central mission has been to undermine and destroy the United States and Western democratic nations in order to impose communism, socialism and authoritarian rule, using drug addiction, overdoses, and election interference as weapons.
Using drugs to weaken Western civilization has been devastatingly effective. Commentator Wayne Allyn Root has called this “a war to save our children,” pointing to stark comparisons from history:
- 58,000 Americans died in the Vietnam War
- 116,000 in World War I
- 407,000 in World War II
- 600,000 to 700,000 in the Civil War
Root rightly states that this drug war is an “undeclared worst war of all time—a war only being fought (until now) by one side.” In this undeclared drug war, foreign enemies have been waging war against our children and our society without consequence. Over 100,000 Americans die each year from drugs—more than 1,000,000 in the past decade and 2.5 million deaths since the year 2000. These stats do not include the number of drug deaths in Canada which are also off the chart!
Americans and Canadians are being killed en masse, with youth deliberately targeted through drugs. This is a war unlike any other—no bombs, no hand-to-hand combat. The US response was precise and deliberate. As Commander in Chief, President Trump had a duty to defend Americans—not only from narco-terrorism, but from an unprecedented invasion by those who seek to destroy the nation from within.
Venezuela: A Dangerous Threat to the Western Hemisphere
Watch the interview above. Several months ago, Alex joined Greg Hunter on USA Watchdog to explain that what was then Trump’s quiet war with Venezuela was far more significant than most people realized—and wow, was he right!
Alex was ahead of the curve in reporting on the geopolitical threat of Venezuela as a central hub for drug manufacturing and money laundering, enabled by Iranian and Hezbollah-linked networks, supported by China’s chemical and financial infrastructure, while foreign regimes including Cuba, Russia, and China kept the Maduro regime in power through oil, arms, and political protection.
Having grown up in Mexico and Latin America, Alex emphatically warned that “what is happening is we are watching the total communist takeover of the entire region.” He stated that this takeover has been aided and abetted by figures such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and George Soros, pointing to key individuals within the Council on Foreign Relations, including Julia Sweig.
Taken together, Newman’s reporting paints a clear picture of a long-running revolutionary strategy—one rooted in communist ideology, executed through criminal networks, and aimed at dismantling Western nations from within. What began in Cuba and spread through Venezuela is not confined to Latin America. The same playbook—political subversion, institutional capture, voter manipulation, and social destabilization—is now being applied closer to home. Canada is not immune, and in many ways is already further along this path. Understanding how this strategy unfolded elsewhere is essential to recognizing what is now taking shape in Canada—and why the warning signs cannot be ignored.
So what does Venezuela have to do with Canada? Is Canada the next Venezuela 2.0? Is the infrasture already in place?
The answer is yes.
For more than a decade, Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government have deliberately modeled policies that mirror the same tyrannical and structural changes that collapsed Venezuela—from a functioning democracy into a socialist, authoritarian state. It has happened despite public opposition, constitutional limits, and repeated warnings.
As far back as 2015, Tanya Gaw was in direct communication with Liberal MP Ken Hardie regarding the risks of marijuana legalization—particularly the danger of normalizing drug use among children as young as 12. Hardie openly stated that the Liberals were following the drug policies of Venezuela. At the Liberal Party Convention in April 2016, the agenda went even further—moving beyond marijuana toward legalizing all hard drugs. Canada was being primed.
In 2013, Trudeau openly stated:
“There’s a level of admiration I actually have for China because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime.”
This was a foreshadowing of over a decade of governance marked by centralized power, erosion of democratic safeguards, and contempt for constitutional limits.
Under Trudeau, Canada’s borders have been deliberately weakened, laws hollowed out, free speech attacked, and immigration policy weaponized—not to strengthen the nation, but to destabilize it. Canada has been flooded through mass, unvetted immigration that does not align with Canadian values, while hostile foreign state interference in elections has been ignored, minimized, or actively obstructed from investigation. At the same time, terrorist-linked entities, including the IRGC and Hezbollah, along with Chinese and Mexican drug cartels, have operated with alarming impunity.
This mirrors Venezuela precisely. When the regime consolidated power in the late 1970s and onward, border integrity was intentionally destroyed to allow narco-terrorism and criminal networks to flourish—cementing state control while society collapsed.
For over ten years, Liberals have impoverished Canadians, destroyed key industries, and dismantled energy independence—not through incompetence, but intentionally. Socialism requires dependency. Dependency requires economic destruction. And disarming Canadians is an essential next step—so citizens have no way to resist. This is exactly what happened in Venezuela. What took decades there is being accelerated here.
The United States has every reason to view Canada as a growing security liability. Every major enemy of the US is operating within our borders. The question is will Trump feel compelled to ‘Maduro’ Carney and Justin Trudeau? Considering this is the “undeclared worst war of all time” it wouldn’t be unreasonable to do so.
The Liberals have bulldozed public opposition, run roughshod over the Constitution, and continue to violate Canadians’ inalienable, God-given rights—rights that do not come from government and cannot be revoked by decree. It is critical that Canadians rise up in opposition to EVERY bad policy tearing at the fabric of our nation, before its too late!
