Dear Prime Minister Mark Carney, Hon. Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice, and Member of Parliament,

RE: Supporting Bill C-9 Is a Direct Violation of Canada’s Christian Constitution

By removing the religious defence in Section 319(3)(b), you are knowingly and deliberately violating the constitutional foundation of Canada—a nation established on the Supremacy of God and Judeo-Christian Biblical principles.

  • The Charter of Rights and Freedoms declares in its preamble that Canada is “founded upon principles that recognize the Supremacy of God.”
  • The Constitution Act, 1867 invokes the blessings of “Almighty God”.
  • The Magna Carta (1215) was enacted for the glory of God and the Church and remains part of our constitutional lineage.
  • Each of you swore allegiance to a King who is bound by the Coronation Oath to maintain the Laws of God and the Protestant Reformed faith.
  • 25 scriptures are etched into our parliament buildings, included in our National Anthem, supported Supreme Court rulings and much more.

To criminalize the reading or teaching of Bible verses is to overthrow the very basis of Canadian law and nationhood.

Freedom of religion, expression, conscience and protection from ideological coercion are enshrined in national law and upheld by courts precisely so that no government can dictate that scripture is dangerous simply because it is politically inconvenient.

This is not reform. This is revolution against Canada’s Christian constitution. It is the same tactic used by authoritarian regimes in history: stigmatize the Church, outlaw Scripture, and expand state control. Removing constitutional religious safeguards puts all peaceful belief-based speech at risk, not only Christian expression.

Supporting Bill C-9 places you in direct breach of your oath and the foundational laws of this country, compromising the legal order you swore to uphold, not dismantle. Should you vote to criminalize God’s Word, you will have positioned yourself against the constitutional framework you pledged to defend, and the people of Canada will hold you fully accountable at the ballot box.

I call on you to:

  1. Withdraw the proposal to remove the religious defence clause.
  2. Publicly affirm that no Canadian will ever face prosecution for quoting or teaching Scripture in good faith.
  3. Reject any amendment that allows Biblical texts to be categorized as unlawful speech.
