Remembrance Day is a time to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedoms. Their courage compels us to contemplate the cost of Freedom. We think especially of those who served on the frontlines. People like Canada’s famous soldier, John McCrae, who in 1915 volunteered for duty at the age of 41 in WW1. He wrote to a friend, “I am really rather afraid, but more afraid to stay at home with my conscience.” McCrae penned the famous poem In Flanders Fields. The last stanza is a challenge to all of us:
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Today we desperately need heroes, every day Canadians, who will take up the “quarrel with the foe”, whose conscience will not allow them to sit back and do nothing. In McCrae’s time it was a physical foe. However, today we are at war with ideologies and agendas that threaten the very foundation of Canadian culture and freedom which is based on Christian biblical principles.
Men of valor from days past died, that we may live. We have a responsibility to continue to carry the torch and hold it high!
We cannot allow this nation to crumble and fall into the hands of godless leaders who embrace a culture of death through mass abortions, assisted suicide (euthanasia) and the genocide of our next generation by way of sterilization and mutilation. We cannot stand idly by as the government destroys our economy and wastes Canadians’ hard earned tax dollars to fund wars and fake global agendas such as Climate Change and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
We need to strongly oppose the government’s efforts to eliminate our Christian heritage at every turn. Including the recent directive from the Department of National Defence to chaplains, on Oct 11, calling for an adherence to a “strict standard for religious neutrality” and a call to prohibit Christian prayer so as not to offend ‘other’ religions.
According to the Constitution, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Coronation Oath, we are a nation under One God, the God of Creation and the Bible, and this fact cannot and must not be denied or undermined. The Charter clearly states in the preamble that we are a nation that “recognizes the Supremacy of God”.
Something else to consider is that the government has allocated the month of October to celebrate Islamic Heritage; another month to celebrate Islamic Ramadan; and April is Sikh heritage month but Canadians only have been allocated ONE day to celebrate Canadian soldiers who sacrificed everything for our freedoms! Something is definitely amiss in Canada.
A nation divided against itself will fall. Therefore, it is critical that Canadians uphold, defend and “Stand on Guard” for our Christian heritage because there is no such thing as a free and democratic nation without it.
On this Remembrance Day we have the opportunity to remember with gratitude the freedom that was gained. It is also a time to contemplate the liberties that are being eroded and what actions each one of us is willing to take. As John McCrae wrestled with going to war, we too must decide if we are more afraid to stay at home with our conscience than to publicly stand up for faith, family and freedom.
