A militant atheist group—Kelowna Atheists, Skeptics and Humanists, backed by the BC Humanist Association—is once again pressuring Mayor and Council to strip tax exemptions from churches in Kelowna. They are planning to voice their complaints at the upcoming City Council meeting and we need to counter their hate and intolerance with the voice of reason.

This is the same group that demanded the removal of a sign that read, Keep Christ in Christmas, from last year’s Christmas display. Christmas is a Christian holiday and this is an attack against our faith, our traditions, and our values.

Let’s be clear: Canada is a Christian nation, and our churches are not just places of faith—they are pillars of the community and moral order. They deserve our support—not hostility.

You may not live in Kelowna but please take action because every church across Canada is under attack. The BC Humanist Association have been aggressively lobbying government to remove charitable status and funding for pro-life groups. The federal government took note and responded in December 2024 when they quietly recommended to do just that, buried deep in the 2025 pre-budget. Christian organizations are the backbone of Canada; many establishing hospitals, education, providing social care, and fostering community development long before government welfare programs existed. The ‘Halo Effect’ results in churches contributing billions of dollars in aid to their communities nationwide.

We call on every citizen to rise up, speak out, and defend our churches. Contact the Mayor and Council today. Show up. Be heard. We will not allow a small, bitter minority to erase the foundations of our society.

Dear Mayor and Council,

Subject: Preserve Tax Exemptions for Churches – Defend Our Community Values

I am writing to strongly urge you to reject the demand to remove tax exemptions for churches and religious organizations in Kelowna.

Churches are not just places of worship—they are vital community institutions that feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, support families, offer childcare, counsel the broken, provide addiction support, and countless other charitable services that directly benefit residents across all backgrounds. Through the “halo effect” they invest millions of dollars in charitable services that directly benefit our city. The value they return to the community far exceeds any tax exemption they receive.

The push from the Kelowna Atheists, Skeptics and Humanists Association is not about fairness—it is an ideologically driven attack on faith, tradition, and the moral foundations of our city and country.

Canada is a Christian nation and is founded on Christian principles, and churches have always played a central role in building strong, compassionate communities. They deserve continued support—not targeted hostility.

Please stand for freedom, charity, and common sense—and uphold the current tax exemptions for religious organizations.

Sincerely,
